Morehead Planetarium and Science Center lets buses pull into the front lot to unload, but buses cannot park there; on weekday mornings and early afternoons, limited bus parking is available on Skipper Bowles Drive between Kenan Drive and Tar Heel Boulevard, in front of the Dean E. Smith Center. Your bus drops students at the planetarium, parks off-site, and returns for pickup — the official Morehead Planetarium field-trip bus parking information keeps that split clear.
Stop Calling Company After Company for School Event Transportation Quotes

Fill out one quick form, and you'll instantly see different bus types, amenities, and pricing side by side without creating an account. Charter Buses to Raleigh's Free Museums Make the Whole Trip Easier
Fill out one form and instantly compare buses for the Triangle's most popular field trip run — Chapel Hill to Raleigh's museum block! The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and the North Carolina Museum of History sit side by side downtown, with the Museum of History currently closed for renovation. The drive is about 30 miles down I-40 — roughly 35 to 50 minutes off-peak, longer during morning rush.
Bus loading and unloading is available on Jones Street near the Nature Exploration Center, and free bus parking is two blocks away at Blount and Jones Streets. A 56-passenger charter bus keeps the whole grade together and provides undercarriage storage for lunches and backpacks, making the logistics dramatically simpler than coordinating a parent-driver caravan.
After unloading downtown, your bus can use overflow bus parking beside the North Carolina Museum of Art on Blue Ridge Road when the closer bus area is full. The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences directions and parking page maps the loading zone, free bus area, and overflow option.
Minibuses Make Downtown Chapel Hill and UNC Campus Stops Simple
Busrentalchapelhill.com is here to make on-campus and downtown field trips just as easy as the longer runs! The UNC campus and the Franklin Street corridor have tight turning radiuses and limited oversized-vehicle access — which is exactly why a 15- to 35-passenger minibus is often the smarter pick for trips to the Ackland Art Museum (101 S Columbia St, Chapel Hill, NC 27514), the North Carolina Botanical Garden (100 Old Mason Farm Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27517), or Coker Arboretum on the UNC campus. Minibuses are compact enough to navigate South Columbia Street and Franklin Street cleanly, drop your class at the entrance, and stage nearby while your students explore.

Durham Museum of Life and Science Is Just 20 Minutes Away
Hit one of the Triangle's most beloved K–8 destinations without the long drive! The Museum of Life and Science (433 W Murray Avenue, Durham, NC 27704) is just about 12 miles from Chapel Hill via US-15-501 North — roughly 20 to 25 minutes off-peak. The museum features an outdoor science park, a butterfly house, train rides, and hands-on exhibits that students absolutely love.
Bus groups receive reserved on-site parking at check-in, though buses may be sent off-site on fully booked days; everyone meets and departs from the southside area across from the main museum, and buses that leave and return forfeit their parking spots. Reserve the group visit at least 48 hours in advance through the museum's field-trip and group-visit information. Through Busrentalchapelhill.com, you can compare minibuses and charter buses from a network of providers serving Chapel Hill and Durham and find exactly what your group needs!
Marbles Kids Museum Is a Perfect Raleigh Stop for Younger Students
Choosing the right destination for your PreK through 5th-grade class? Marbles Kids Museum (201 E Hargett St, Raleigh, NC 27601) is one of the most popular Raleigh field trip stops for younger students, with interactive exhibits and an IMAX theater on site. It's about 30 miles from Chapel Hill down I-40 — the same corridor as the Raleigh museum block — making it easy to combine with a stop at the Museum of Natural Sciences for older groups or plan as a standalone trip for elementary classes.
Bus parking is available on E Hargett Street and in nearby City of Raleigh parking decks. Compare buses and pricing from the network in seconds and check this one off your planning list!
Spring Field Trip Season Books Fast Across the Triangle
If you're planning a spring field trip, start comparing buses now — March through May is the single busiest stretch of the year for school transportation across Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh. Every school in Orange County, Durham County, and Wake County is chasing the same warm-weather windows, which means available vehicles fill up fast. UNC graduation in mid-May tightens vehicle supply even further across the region.
Book four to eight weeks in advance for spring trips and two to four weeks out for fall outings to make sure you get the bus size and amenities your class needs. Call 984-528-8130 right now to lock in your date — or use the 30-second online quote tool to see what's available instantly!

The museum's first-come Visitor Lot 1 is at 100 E Jones Street, with entrances on Jones Street and Edenton Street; that lot is for visitor parking, while buses use the separate loading and bus-parking areas. The Museum of History next door shares the same block, so groups visiting both can stage in the same area. Contact the museum's group reservations team before your visit to confirm current large-vehicle access and any event-day restrictions.
Full-size 56-passenger charter buses can have difficulty with the tight turns on South Columbia Street and the Franklin Street corridor near UNC. For trips to the Ackland Art Museum, Morehead Planetarium, or the North Carolina Botanical Garden, a 15- to 35-passenger minibus is often the better fit — it handles campus streets cleanly and can drop your class at the entrance without the oversized-vehicle headaches. Mention your destination when you request your quote and the network will match you to the right vehicle size.
Book four to eight weeks in advance for spring field trips (March through May), which is the busiest period across the entire Triangle region. Fall trips are a bit more flexible — two to four weeks of lead time is usually workable. UNC graduation in mid-May tightens vehicle supply across Chapel Hill and Durham, so any trip near that window deserves an earlier booking.
The sooner you compare, the more options you'll have at the best prices!
A single classroom of 20 to 30 students plus chaperones fits comfortably on a 25- to 35-passenger minibus, which also handles Chapel Hill's campus streets and downtown drop zones better than a full-size coach. For smaller enrichment groups or specialty programs, a sprinter van may be the right fit. If you're moving multiple classes or an entire grade level, a 56-passenger charter bus with undercarriage storage for lunches and backpacks is the most efficient option.
